Cover Feature: Fluxional Atomic Metal Clusters
Small Structures: Volume 7, Issue 2
February 2026
Although built from heavy-metal atoms, in their Research Article (10.1002/sstr.202500478), María Pilar de Lara-Castells, Katarzyna M. Krupka, and Berta Fernándezit show that ultra-small silver clusters exhibit conical intersections that trigger Jahn–Teller (JT) distortions and fluxional behavior. A support-driven shift from JT to pseudo-JT distortions is also uncovered and the capabilities of high-level ab initio benchmarking are highlighted with the emphasis on experimental observables. This article is part of the special collection in the journal “Small Structures” dedicated to the COST Action CA21101 “COSY”.
