SUMMARY:COSY General Meeting Satellite WG1/WG5 Meeting
DESCRIPTION:We invite the members of the COST Action CA21101 (“COSY”)\, as well as all interested parties\, to join the working group 1 (WG1) and 5 (WG5) one-day symposium in the CSIC Central Campus\, Madrid on the 30th of April 2026. Working group 1 (leader Piotr Zuchowski) covers fundamental studies of molecular interactions: new methods\, benchmarks on confined systems. Working group 5 (leader Lauri Halonen) covers computational\, theoretical\, and experimental investigation of the formation of molecules and matter in the interstellar medium and in planetary and solar atmospheres. The aim is to continue the close collaboration between these working groups\, i.e.\, theoretical and computational expertise in WG1 and experimental and theoretical spectroscopic knowledge in WG5. On the theory side\, we are interested in molecular scattering\, perturbation theory\, variational and discrete variable methods\, and electronic structure calculations. The applications concentrate particularly on astrochemistry\, i.e.\, on spectroscopy and chemical reactions in the gas phase and on surfaces of particles in the interstellar medium and in the atmospheres of exoplanets\, and near very hot environments. DESCRIPTION:Experimental and Computational Approaches for Studying Multicomponent Confined Systems\n\nOrganizers: Alessandro Fortunelli\, Lyudmila Moskaleva\, Petra Čechová\, and Markéta Paloncyova)\n\nDate: 17 December 2025 09:00-17:00\n\nThis is the 2nd Edition of the WG3 Virtual Symposium – Young Scientists’ Forum – is designed to serve as a platform for Young Researchers and Investigators (YRIs) within the Working Group 3 and the entire Action to present and discuss their research on confined molecular systems. The YSF2025 aims at stimulating discussions on the latest advancements in nanocluster research\, encouraging active participation and knowledge exchange among attendees. By stimulating active participation and knowledge exchange\, the symposium aims to strengthen professional relationships and promote future collaborative projects both within and outside WG3. Building on the success of the previous virtual meetings of WG3: S-1 and S-2 held in 2022 and 2023\, and the 1st Edition of the Young Scientists’ Forum in 2024\, the event will follow a Faraday-Discussion format\, which will allow attendees to discuss their research in a collaborative environment. The Faraday Discussion format foresees that some materials of the presentations are available ahead of the discussion (as DOIs\, slides\, or videos)\, then allowing for their very short presentation by the presenters and reserving a much longer time for the ensuing discussions and questions from the other participants (grounded on the previously available materials). In YSF these two types of contributions are expected: (i) Talks: 5-minute presentations followed by 15 minutes discussion\, (ii) Brief Presentations: Flash presentations of 2 minutes followed by 8 minutes discussion. DESCRIPTION:The 1st In-person WG2 Workshop aims to bring together leading experts in theoretical and computational physical chemistry to exchange ideas and insights necessary for understanding the dynamical phenomena occurring in complex systems. These systems may include those with enclosing molecular cages\, surfaces\, and interfaces\, as well as molecules confined by electromagnetic fields. \nThe workshop will focus on systems described by classical\, quantum\, and mixed quantum-classical dynamics\, as well as other systems requiring simulations across multiple scales. The airport is connected to the central railway station by the Marconi Express service\, which takes only 7 minutes to cover the route. The monorail costs €12\,80 one way and €23\,30 round trip.\nIn addition to this\, from 19 May 2025\, is the new “Q” BUS CONNECTION Bologna Airport with Maggiore Hospital and Central Station. A ride to/from the center takes about 20-30 minutes (up to 40 minutes depending on the traffic) with the price ranging from € 20.00-25.00.\nBY CAR – If you travel by car\, you may want to know that Bologna is one of Italy’s major motorway junctions\, connecting the north and south of the country. Bologna is located along the A1\, only 1 hour from Florence (southbound)\, and just over 2 hours from Milan (northbound). Bologna is also the gateway to the A14\, running along the Adriatic side of the peninsula from Romagna all the way to Taranto. DESCRIPTION:This one-day virtual meeting will gather the leading experts in the field of molecular dynamics and spectroscopy. The goal is to present recent advances in quantum and classical dynamics to treat molecules either isolated or in a confined environment\, which may consist of enclosing molecular cages\, surfaces\, and interfaces as well as of strong electromagnetic static or optical fields.  Presentations by young researchers\, and colleagues from ITC countries and/or lesser represented gender are welcome. DESCRIPTION:Control at the Nanoscale – Manipulating Structure and Properties of Nanoscale Clusters. Recent Experimental and Theoretical Advances and Future Challenges\nLik to registration:\nhttps://forms.gle/p9bvTfaYwgiYxJCK7\nThe 2nd WG3 Virtual Symposium will focus on recent experimental and theoretical advancements in the field of nanoscale cluster science\, as well as the future challenges and opportunities. The topics will include: 1) The controlled and precise synthesis and characterization of nanoscale clusters with different compositions\, sizes\, shapes\, and structures; 2) The manipulation and control of nanoscale clusters using external stimuli such as light\, electric fields\, magnetic fields\, or chemical agents; 3) The investigation of the structure-property relationships of nanoscale clusters and their controlled applications in catalysis\, optics\, electronics\, energy conversion\, and storage; 4)The development of computational methods and models for simulating and accurately predicting the properties of nanoscale clusters. The symposium will bring together researchers from different disciplines and backgrounds who share a common interest in nanoscale cluster science at the extreme limit of control. It will provide a platform for exchanging ideas\, presenting results\, discussing challenges\, and fostering collaborations. The symposium may also feature external invited speakers who are leading experts in the field\, as well as presentations in dedicated sessions (see below) and panel discussions. The primary goal of WG3 S-2 is to make the point within the COSY community on the general topic of control at the nanoscale. Transfer of knowledge among the symposium participants\, dissemination of the results already achieved within the framework of WG3\, and positioning in terms of short- and medium-term perspectives will be the main goals of the symposium. Additionally\, the convenience of forming task-force groups (TFGs) on specific topics\, resulting in multi-authored publications will be discussed. An idea is eg that each TFG be led by an experienced researcher and co-led by an early-stage investigator. SUMMARY:Experiment and Theory Join Forces on Characterization of Confined Molecular Systems
DESCRIPTION:Experiment and Theory Join Forces on Characterization of Confined Molecular Systems\nWorking Group 3 meeting.\nCOSY WG3 S-1 Symposium \nOne-day virtual meeting of WG3: WG3 S-1\, held on December 19\, 2022\, 09:30-17:30 via zoom. \nWG3 and other WG participants convened virtually to discuss the latest advances in experimental and theoretical techniques for characterization/property-prediction and how they can benefit from closer interactions and synergies. Focus was on advanced characterization (ideally\, high-resolution and in-situ) and its theoretical modeling. \nThe total number of attendees was 61. \nWG3 S-1 was structured in 5 sessions with two longer (L) and 4 shorter (S) presentations: \nSession 1 – Microscopic Models\nSession 2 – Vibrations\nSession 3 – Restructuring\nSession 4 – Reactivity\nSession 5 – Response \nOf the longer presentations\, 50% were given by females; of the shorter presentations\, 40% were given by females. 5 presentations were given by young researchers. \nIt was organized according to a Faraday-Discussions-type format: each one of the 5 sessions of 72′ started with 2 longer oral presentations (lasting around 5′) followed by their open discussion up to 15′ for each presentation\, then 4 shorter oral presentations (around 2-3′) followed by their open discussion up to 5-6′ for each presentation. Presenters were asked in advance to share the DOIs of the papers they would present so that attendees could look at the papers in advance\, and the oral presentations could be essential to leave room to an articulated and fruitful discussion. Again in a Faraday-Discussions-type format\, Questions & Answers were collected with the help of all participants either presenting or making questions and shared for stronger impact at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1i6xGDRwGYE6ocaDkv55Agm8QHE9vSKcn/edit. \nIn connection with reporting for the 1st GM\, we created a form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd0VO8QdBdadn_QKRnhKQAfHS6hmSkiwQ_01GD-_viqF-WFFw/viewform\, and asked a few questions on the WG3 S-1 meeting\, restricted to WG3 members.
