SUMMARY:Computational Physics of Confined Systems: From Life to Material Sciences. Training School.
DESCRIPTION:The school will be organized in Kyiv on the basis of the Bogolyubov Institute for Theoretical Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (BITP) under the umbrella of COST Action CA21101 / CONFINED MOLECULAR SYSTEMS: FROM A NEW GENERATION OF MATERIALS TO THE STARS (COSY). \n \nThe School aims to introduce students and early-career scientists to computational research in confined systems\, bridging the disciplines of life and materials sciences. With its focus on cutting-edge topics\, the School intends to inspire young researchers to explore this interdisciplinary field through lectures\, hands-on tutorials\, and skill-building sessions in scientific communication. The scope of the School covers the structure of biomolecules (nucleic acids and proteins)\, as well as the physical properties of novel materials (such as graphene\, Dirac materials\, and atomic clusters)\, and liquids in confined and bulk systems. Advanced methods for modeling the physical properties of such systems at different levels of organization will be highlighted. The lectures are also intended to bridge computational results with theoretical models and experiments. Participants from Kyiv are expected to attend in person\, while participants from other cities in Ukraine and from Europe will join the event online via Zoom. Participation in the School is free of charge. \n  \nScientific committee \n\n\n\nSergiy Perepelytsya\nBogolyubov Institute for Theoretical Physics of the NAS of Ukraine\n\n\nMaria Pilar de Lara-Castells\nCOSY COST Action Chair\n\n\nFrancesca Mocci\nUniversity of Cagliari\, Italy\n\n\n  \nSonja Grubisic\nUniversity of Belgrade\n\n\n\n  \n  \nLocal Organizing Committee \n\n\n\nSergiy Perepelytsya\nBogolyubov Institute for Theoretical Physics of the NAS of Ukraine\n\n\nTetiana Bubon\nBogolyubov Institute for Theoretical Physics of the NAS of Ukraine\, University of Trieste\n\n\n\n  \nInvited Speakers \n\n\n\nFrancesca Mocci\nUniversity of Cagliari\, Italy\n\n\nSergiy Perepelytsya\nBogolyubov Institute for Theoretical Physics of the NAS of Ukraine\n\n\nSonja Grubisic\nUniversity of Belgrade\n\n\nErik Laurini\nUniversity of Trieste\, Italy\n\n\nKhrystyna Gnatenko\nIvan Franko National University of Lviv\, Lviv\, Ukraine\n\n\nTetiana Bubon\nBogolyubov Institute for Theoretical Physics of the NAS of Ukraine\n\n\nDomenico Marson\nUniversity of Trieste\, Italy\n\n\nTaras Bryk\nYukhnovskii Institute for Condensed Matter Physics of the NAS of Ukraine\n\n\nAri Paavo Seitsonen\nEcole Normale Supérieure de Paris\, France\n\n\nVitalii Tymshyshyn\nBogolyubov Institute for Theoretical Physics of the NAS of Ukraine\n\n\nKęstutis Aidas\nVilnius University\, Lithuania\n\n\nPetra Čechová\nCzech Advanced Technology Research Institute (CATRIN)\, \nCzech Republic\n\n\n\nProgram \nDownload program \n7Program_COST_SCHOOL_2026 (1)\nPlease enable JavaScript in your browser to complete this form.Name *FirstLastEmail *Affiliation *Country * \n Degree Working COST\n \n \n Degree *--- Select Choice ---Undergraduate studentPhD studentPostdocResearcherProfessorWorking Group in COST COSY *--- Select Choice ---WG1WG2WG3WG4WG5no one aboveResearch area *Motivation *I will participate with a short presentation *YesNoSubmit \n

SUMMARY:Modeling potential energy functions with Machine Learning and classical techniques. Training School.
DESCRIPTION:Overview \nThe training school will be held at the University of Coimbra\, Portugal\, during 2 full days in January 2026. We aim at gathering together PhD candidates and young researchers with highly qualified trainers\, mostly from the area of machine learning (ML) as applied to computational chemistry problems. The central topic of the school is the parameterization of force fields to be used in molecular simulations by employing either classical fitting approaches or recently proposed ML techniques. Lectures covering introductory ML concepts and applications to potential energy modeling will be delivered by experts. Although the subject will be considered in a broad context\, particular emphasis will be given to applications regarding force fields parameterization with interest in biological systems and materials. Additionally\, practical and tutorial classes that complement the theoretical lectures will be delivered by experts with the help of younger researchers with expertise in the area. The practical activities will allow trainees to learn how to use public domain software for the parameterization of force fields \n  \nDate: 22-23 January 2026. \n  \nLocal Organizing Committee: \nJorge Marques \nJoana Santos \nPaulo Abreu \nTânia Cova \n  \nScientific Committee: \nMaría Pilar de Lara-Castells (CSIC – Instituto de Fisica Fundamental\, Madrid\, Spain) \nFrancesca Mocci (University of Cagliari\, Italy) \nBerta Fernández Rodríguez (University of Santiago de Compostela\, Spain) \nAlberto Canelas Pais (University of Coimbra\, Portugal) \n  \n  \nVenue \nDepartment of Chemistry\, University of Coimbra (Portugal). \nLectures: Seminar Room (2nd floor).
